Peaceful Families Project Research Mission & Goals
Peaceful Families Project is a national NGO dedicated to the prevention and eradication of Domestic Violence in Muslim communities and globally through the increased awareness of domestic violence and models of positive family functioning through an Islamic perspective.
PFP has a history of engaging in scientifically based investigations, alone and with partners that serve to increase the knowledge of the range and impact of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual violence, gender based violence and other related topics on the Muslim comminity both in the United States and globally, as well as incurring data based evidence for prevention and amelioration activities.

PFP’s mission related to research are summarized below:
- To adopt alternative models of research that take into consideration Islamic perspectives on current social issues.
- To conduct research that provides alternative perspectives to social issues by utilizing methods that include diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, gender, and class based representation as well as Islamic intellectual and faith based models
- To design and implement research that is trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and diversity-inclusive.
PFP’s research goals include the use of scientific investigation to :
- Gain a better understanding of how Muslim communities are impacted by current social issues (e.g. domestic violence, gender based violence, marital roles, etc.)
- Increase understanding of the unique strengths of the Muslim community in dealing with current social issues (e.g. family formation, domestic violence, peaceful parenting, etc.)
- Utilizing research to serve as a foundation for the prevention activities and resources of PFP’s service to the Muslim community (evidence-based practice).
- Providing opportunities to Muslim and Muslim-friendly researchers to collaborate with Muslim experts and communities in the search for relevent research projects
