::::::::::::Documentary on Domestic Violence for Muslim Communities

This clip features Sharifa Alkhateeb, founder of the Peaceful Families Project, and illustrates a portion of what will appear in the completed documentary.

A collaborative effort of FaithTrust Institute and the Peaceful Families Project, the film is designed for victims of domestic violence in Muslim communities, counselors and advocates in shelters for battered women who serve Muslim women, and general

audiences in Muslim communities to increase understanding of the dynamics of abuse and to offer insight into the Islamic perspective. It will be an important educational tool inside the Muslim community, as well as a resource for shelters, public agencies, hospitals, doctors, judges, lawyers, and family court professionals. A most important outcome is dispelling the myth that Islam and Muslims approve of unjust and criminal behavior inside their families.

FaithTrust Institute (FTI), our funder since 2000, has successfully raised the $175,000 cost of producing this documentary, due out in the spring of 2007. To broaden the reach and accessibility of the film, FTI is attempting to raise an additional $50,000 for translating the video into several languages. The product will be a multilingual subtitled documentary accompanied by translated study guides. FaithTrust Insitute and the Peaceful Families Project invites you to be a part of this groundbreaking work.
